This past Saturday, Aug. 15 excited fans packed the stands and pit area at Wiscasset Speedway in anticipation for the Group 2 Fan Appreciation Night and the longest distance Late Model race of the year, the Late Model 75.

Desperate for volunteers
The Lincoln County Recovery Community Center located at 3 Hall St., Newcastle will be holding their 5k road race on Aug. 22 with sign-in beginning at 8 a.m. We need volunteers to help this event run smoothly and we are sadly under the number of people we need.

While tracks across New England canceled or postponed their racing events on Saturday due to unfavorable weather, Wiscasset Speedway took a chance on the probable window and ultimately won, successfully hosting all Group 1 divisions plus the lightning-fast NEMA Lites and Midgets.

Grab a partner, practice that perfect toss and get ready to send some bags flying for a great cause. Mobius, Inc. will sponsor “A Hole Lotta Good,” a community cornhole tournament, on Saturday, Aug. 29 at the Nobleboro Little League Field on Route 1. Organizers are preparing for what promises to be one of Midcoast Maine’s biggest and liveliest cornhole events of the summer. The event is presented by Wicked Cornhole.

Saturday, Aug. 1 marked one month since Group 2 divisions hit the track at Wiscasset Speedway due to unfavorable weather conditions but fortunately, it was the perfect night to get back in the groove of things. To make up for lost races, the program included makeup races for both the Late Models and Roadrunners in addition to the flex Carver’s Driving Academy Crown Vics.

Boothbay Railway Village Museum will host its highly anticipated annual Children’s Day this Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. BRVM is located at 586 Wiscasset Road/Route 27, Boothbay. The family-friendly event features a full day of activities across the Museum's historic 4-acre village green. Included with regular Museum admission, attendees can enjoy lawn games, arts and crafts, bounce houses, a water slide, a slip-and-slide, and signature barrel and train rides. Families planning to use the water attractions are encouraged to bring bathing suits and towels.

Boothbay grads help raise record-breaking total at Lobster Bowl Classic

The 36th Maine Shrine Lobster Bowl Classic, held July 18, raised a record-breaking $318,889 for Shriners Hospitals for Children (Shriners Children's). The annual event features 140 of Maine's top graduating football players and cheerleaders from more than 60 schools. Among this year's participants were Boothbay Region High School graduates Griffin Yereance and Maddie Andreasen.
Page Brown begins her new basketball career as a varsity coach

In 2018, Page Brown graduated from Boothbay Region as one of the school’s most decorated athletes. Brown was a standout in field hockey, but it was on the hardwood where she really made her mark. She was a four-year starter on four consecutive basketball tournament teams and was a 1,000-point scorer. 
Wawenock Golf Club to celebrate 100 years Aug. 1

Wawenock Golf Club in Walpole will mark a full century of golf and community on Saturday, Aug. 1, with a day-long centennial celebration honoring the club's opening on Aug. 11, 1926, and looking ahead to its next hundred years. The club's story began on that August afternoon a century ago, when Murray Shipley stepped to the first tee and sent a true, well-placed opening shot down the fairway — a swing that, in effect, opened Wawenock Golf Club to the community it has served ever since.
Westport Island Shore Run Aug. 16
Race
The 21st annual Westport Island Shore Run 10K Road Race takes place this year on Sunday, Aug. 16 on bridge-accessible Westport Island. "Maine's Best Little 10K Road Race" had a great turnout in 2025 with over 60 runners and more than 15 participants in the "fun walk." It was our biggest turnout in the race's history! The 21st anniversary running of the race will again benefit Westport Volunteer Fire Department, whose members direct traffic and provide logistical and medical support at the race. Over the past 20 years, the race has raised over $37,000 for the Westport Island firefighters!

Following an unfortunate Group 2 rainout last weekend, the skies cleared in Coastal Maine on Saturday, July 25 making for a beautiful day for Wiscasset Speedway to host their annual “Birthday Night,” honoring all track champions and Hall of Fame members. In addition to a special presentation at intermission, the program also included the $1,500-to-win Darling’s Brunswick Ford Super Street 100 with fireworks to boot at the end of the night.

With under two weeks to go, anticipation is building for the Boothbay Sea and Science Center’s (BSSC) inaugural Paddlepalooza on Linekin Bay! Scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 8 (rain date: Sunday, Aug. 9), this community-wide event invites paddlers of all experience levels and all ages 12+ to take to the water for a morning of fun, camaraderie, and purpose.
Lady Seahawks host another summer Lobster Jam basketball tournament
LOBTER JAM
  Ten teams competed in the 2026 Boothbay Region Lobster Jam girls basketball tournament championships and, after three days of competition, the Freeport Falcons, coached by BRHS alumna Page Brown, defeated the Westbrook Lady Blue Blazes in the championship game July 26. Boothbay invited seven other teams who played five games over the weekend: Spruce Mountain, Medomak, Maine Premier (club), Oceanside, Lincoln Academy, Winthrop and Oak Hill.
